Why We Should Look More into Vegan and Cruelty Free Make Up!
The crossover with using Eco-friendly make up wont be as tough as you may think, you will still maintain a gorgeous look just without the harsh chemicals or suffering of an animal.
While purchasing make up products such as foundation, mascara, or lipstick have you wondered was the product tested on animals first? As more likely than not, it was. Popular cosmetic companies like Maybelline, Clinique, Mac, & Avon have reported to using animal testing in 2018. A few companies have claimed to not participated in animal testing, yet it has been stated that these brands are sold in China, where animal testing is in fact mandatory by law. Simply ignoring the fine print on the labels of your cosmetics can lead you to believe the company doesn’t engage in the cruelty of animal testing.
On a lighter note – there’s plentiful companies that are in fact cruelty-free. This states that the product uses less chemicals, natural ingredients, and more than likely to be in a recyclable container. Companies such as Lush, Bath & Body Works, Sweet SXM Beauty, and Aveda are a few who participate in manufacturing in cruelty free products. Consumers are taking a liking to cruelty free, vegan make up as well.
Vegan beauty blogger Nikki Sakamoto (Instagram: Veganbeauty.blog) states:
“ I prefer vegan and cruelty free makeup because I feel so much more beautiful knowing that my look did not come at the cost of another living beings life. Truly glowing from the inside out when my heart and my conscience is clear.”
According to the article ‘7 Ways Cruelty- Free Products Help Save the Planet’ on BioFriendlyPlanet’s website, animal testing is an issue around the world and cruelty-free products are here to put a halt to this saddening problem. Although there is virtually no reason for animal testing, major companies like Maybelline and Avon continue to conduct these harsh tests, with animals like rabbits and mice being the most common victims. Vegan make up artist Katie Brooke Cox ( Instagram: @Katie.Artistry) states:
“As someone who is vegan I try to eliminate as much cruelty in my life as possible! I want to be able to make myself (and others, since I’m a working make up artist) feel beautiful with a clear conscience! I do not believe animals need to be harmed just to make beauty products, especially in this day and age where we know what works and what doesn’t. I’m really hoping to see the beauty community completely switch over to cruelty free very soon!”
The crossover with using Eco-friendly make up wont be as tough as you may think, you will still maintain a gorgeous look just without the harsh chemicals or suffering of an animal. The world is slowly becoming more Eco-friendly and merchandisers are paying attention to this movement. Companies are now creating recyclable packaging, using renewable energy, and even banning micro-beads which has been said to pollute waters and contaminate the food chain with toxins.
Popular blogger Kayla A. Carter (Instagram: @Kaylaliese) applies cruelty-free products for holistic reasons.
“I rather use products that I know are safe. Putting things onto your skin is just like putting them into our body, its absorbed by our skin and into our bloodstreams. I love not having to worry about toxins going in my body, especially on my face because its super sensitive and even though make up is great, healthy/clear skin is the best skin. I want to make sure the products I’m using are healthy and clean!”
The 7th Magazine’s Caribbean beauty brand “Sweet SXM Beauty” is also Eco-friendly. Sweet SXM Lips + Sweet SXM Eyes have been created with natural ingredients, that is vegan & most importantly cruelty-free. The hand-made cosmetics from Sint Maarten also provide consumers with recyclable packaging, so you’re able to refill/reuse your floral container in creative ways!
